Dear MetJobs list,

The Climate Science program in the Department of Plants, Soils, and Climate at Utah State University ( seeks motivated students (Master or Ph.D.) to study the linkage between droughts (e.g., precipitation deficit) and large-scale meteorological phenomena in the United States. The project will include dynamical modeling, such as state-of-the-art global and regional climate models, and statistical analyses of observed and model-simulated climate datasets. Students who have a strong passion and interest in regional drought dynamics, prediction, and weather linkages should contact Dr. Wei Zhang ( and include the following material:

1) A short description about your research interests

2) Resume

3) Unofficial transcripts

4) GRE score

An initial evaluation will start immediately, and the position will remain open until filled.

Candidates must have a degree in atmospheric or climate-related science, physical geography, hydrology, mathematics, physics, or statistics. Individuals with good knowledge of computer programming are strongly encouraged to apply.

Utah State University’s main campus is located in the city of Logan in northern Utah's Cache Valley, 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. The surrounding area includes ski resorts, lakes, rivers, and mountains, which makes Cache Valley one of the finest recreational environments in the United States. For a region with a population of about 114,000, the community and the university offer a spectacular array of first-rate cultural offerings provided by visiting artists and touring companies, faculty, students, and members of the local community. In addition, Cache Valley is a very safe location as Logan ranked #1 Safest Metro in the West by Law Street, May 2015. USU is an integral part of local economies and communities in Utah, and its contributions are appreciated by local residents, resulting in a unique living-learning community.
