available at the Department of Physics at the Norwegian University of Science
and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. The duration of the appointment is
2 years, and the application deadline is 8 March 2021. The full advertisement

Job description
The work will be within the Atmospheric and Environmental Physics group to
utilise observational evidence to quantify the impact of solar and energetic
particle effects on neutral atmosphere chemistry and dynamics. Satellite data,
as well as ground-based atmospheric radar, airglow, and radiometer data will be
examined for such signatures. The position will be part of the Birkeland Centre
for Space Science (BCSS), a Research Council of Norway international
collaborative Centre of Excellence. Hence the position, located at NTNU, will
provide abundant opportunities for scientific cooperation with both the
international and Norwegian space-science communities.

The candidate will be required to have a PhD in Atmospheric Science, Space
Physics, Astrophysics or a related field, with strong data analysis,
statistical, and programming skills. In addition, practical experience handling
and interpreting large datasets and/or atmospheric models is essential, as is
verbal and written fluency in English. A demonstrated ability to disseminate
findings orally at professional meetings and workshops, and previous authorship
of high impact publications in the field of Space/Atmospheric Physics is
desirable, but not essential. The successful applicant should be highly
competent, motivated and ambitious, with excellent communication skills, both
oral and written.

Terms of employment
Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and normal gross remuneration
is from NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and
seniority. There is a 2% deduction as a contribution to the Norwegian Public
Service Pension Fund. The engagement is to be made in accordance with the
regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the
acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and
Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are
seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from
