Overview

At StormGeo we love talented and passionate individuals who want to be part of unlocking the value of data!  We are seeking an experienced and engaging Data Engineer who wants to become part of an exciting organization supporting StormGeo’s ambitious business.

As part of StormGeo’s DataOps team you will help us to constantly look for different ways of making complex datasets available through modern data platforms, data management and business intelligence.  You will help us build our fundaments in Data Science and AI stronger and work with rapidly developing technologies.

The perfect candidate will have a background in computer science or atmospheric science, and the ability to be a great driver for the StormGeo's data platform.

Workplace will preferably be in Bergen or Oslo. For the right candidate we are open for remote working.  

Responsibilities

  • Manage StormGeo’s data sources in an operational environment.
  • Provide day-to-day support for the DataOps team.
  • Assist with strategic planning for the further development of the StormGeo’s data platform and tools.
  • Work closely with Data Science team and AI/Machine Learning projects.
  • Provide scientific/technical advice to other team members on some work aspects to improve the effectiveness of the team.

Required skills

  • MSc/PhD in computer science, atmospheric science or a related field.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and script languages.
  • Advanced skills in Python, C/C++, SQL and database administration.
  • Knowledge and handling of different file formats such as GRIB, BUFR, NetCDF, GeoTIFF, HDF5 and/or shape.
  • Self-motivated and innovative, with strong problem-solving instincts and close attention to details.
  • Ability to work within a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Good written and verbal presentation skills.

Desired skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of version control systems.
  • Experience working with cloud providers and cloud architecture
