The project focuses on the detection, analysis, and modelling of stratospheric gravity wave (GW) hotspots and their effect on the dynamics of the middle atmosphere. To this end, GW hotspots will be identified on the basis of observations, reanalysis data and model output by analysing different GW parameters, and also background conditions. From these analyses possible GW sources as well as meteorological conditions that favour the generation of GW hotspots will be deduced. To analyse the interaction processes of these GW hotspots with the circulation of the middle atmosphere, in particular experiments with the global circulation models will be performed.
For further details, please contact: Prof. Christoph Jacobi Institute for Meteorology Universität Leipzig jacobi@uni-leipzig.de.We expect strong interest in atmospheric dynamics. Applicants should have a PhD in meteorology, geophysics, physics, or mathematics. Experience in either numerical modeling or high-level scientific programming for data analysis is highly desirable.
The position is awarded for 3 years. Start of the position is intended as soon as possible.
Interested candidates should send a CV; a cover letter describing background, training and research interests; certificates; and the contact information of two potential referees to jacobi@uni-leipzig.de.
Reviews of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled. The selection for the positions will be based solely on merit without regard to gender, religion, national origin, political affiliation, marital or family status or other differences.
