Working place: Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, CNR-ISAC, Bologna, Italy. Duration: 1 year, renewable. Starting date: September 2020 Responsible of research: Daniele Mastrangelo Tasks: - analysis of large-scale atmospheric patterns, and their predictability, from ensemble medium-range (beyond forecast day 7 and up to day 15) and subseasonal (beyond forecast week 2 and up to week 5) forecasts; - detection of the influence of large-scale atmospheric patterns on the conditions of major interest for the European energy production and trading sectors; - evaluation and improvements of the skill in forecasting atmospheric patterns and weather regimes. Required scientific and technical skills: - familiarity with mid-latitude dynamics, sources of atmospheric predictability on the medium- and extended-range, tropical-extratropical teleconnections; - numerical meteorological modelling, preferably global models and ensemble forecasting systems; - proved ability in the analysis and verification of model simulations; - familiarity with the Linux environment; - knowledge of programming languages and tool for the analysis and visualization of large amounts of data (e.g., Python, R, NCL, MATLAB, CDO). - fluency in spoken and written English. Desirable skills: Experience in diagnostics and predictability studies of the influence of large scale patterns (NAO, AO, MJO, ENSO) on the European region. Remuneration: The amount of the research grant, 12 (twelve) monthly payments, is set at EUR 22000 net of expenses in charge of CNR. This amount does not include remuneration for travels in Italy or abroad that will be necessary to carry out the research activities related to the grant. Requirements for admission to the selection: Individuals who, regardless their nationality or age, are in possession of the following requirements on the deadline date for submission of applications, may apply to this selection: - Ph.D. in Physics, Geophysics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Climate Dynamics, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, or an equivalent subject. All qualifications obtained abroad (master degree, doctorate, and any other qualification) shall be recognized in Italy in accordance with current legislation (information on the website of the Ministry of University and Scientific Research: www.miur.it.).
