[Met-jobs] PhD position "Simulation of turbulent transport and exchange processes in the atmospheric boundary layer over mountain regions" at the University of Trento (Italy)
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering at
the University of Trento (Italy) invites applications for one PhD
position on the project "Simulation of turbulent transport and
exchange processes in the atmospheric boundary layer over mountain
regions" (scholarship C3).
The PhD student will work in the framework of the project
“Atmospheric boundary-layer modeling over complex terrain (ASTER)”.
The objectives of the project are (i) to evaluate the performance of
a numerical weather prediction model in forecasting soil properties
and surface and near-surface turbulent fluxes over complex terrain
and (ii) to evaluate the model’s sensitivity to changes and
potential errors in the turbulence and land surface
parameterizations and their input parameters over complex terrain.
The research activity will focus on the above objectives by
performing simulations over idealized complex orography with the WRF
The PhD position is funded by the Euregio Fund for Scientific
Research and by the University of Trento and is a collaboration
between the University of Trento, the University of Innsbruck, and
the Free University of Bolzano. The researcher will work closely
with the members of the Atmospheric Physics Group of the University
of Trento and with the other project partners.
Applications must be submitted by 23 July 2020, 4.00 PM
(Italian time) only through the online application form, which can
be found at the following link:
