The theoretical meteorology group at the University of Hamburg invites applications for a PhD-student position. The position is for 3 years and should start later this year.
Two research topics are proposed: i) predictability research, how initial uncertainties in numerical prediction models spread across the scales, and ii) optimization of the satellite wind observations for use in numerical weather prediction, topic associated with potential follow-on missions of Aeolus, https://www.esa.int/Applications/Observing_the_Earth/Aeolus.
Moreover, perspective candidate are invited to expose own interests and propose further topics in the fields of fluid dynamics with application to large-scale atmospheric dynamics and numerical modelling.
The deadline for applications is 15 June and the information on how to apply is here: https://www.mi.uni-hamburg.de/arbeitsgruppen/theoretische-meteorologie/offene-stellen.html
