A postdoctoral position is available with the UCLA Joint Institute for Regional Earth System Science and Engineering (JIFRESSE). The main focus of the position is a joint UCLA/JPL project on the evolution of precipitating boundary layer clouds. The incumbent will analyze ground-based remote sensing observations of water vapor, precipitation properties and vertical motion to understand the roles of precipitation and convection on boundary layer moisture structure/organization. The selected candidate will have ample opportunity to collaborate with JPL and UCLA scientists involved in satellite remote sensing and validation of retrievals using collocated aircraft observations.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or a closely related field. A strong background in remote sensing is desired and an interest in “big data” tools is a plus.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and complete CV, including contact information for three references. Inquiries and application materials should be addressed to Dr. Mikael Witte (mkwitte@ucla.edu). The position is available immediately and applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until it is filled. Given current circumstances, it is anticipated that this will be a remote work position to start.
