PhD/Postdoc positions in Environmental Fluid Mechanics are available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The prospective researcher will mainly focus on the influence of building infrastructure/vehicles on the dynamics of coupled heat and moisture transport in the urban atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). The postdoctoral research associate will also address other open questions related to extreme weather and urban climate. The work will rely on computational fluid dynamics (CFD), experience with large eddy simulations (LES) or Fluent is thus advantageous. Postdoc candidates should possess a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or engineering. Excellent written English and oral communication skills are required. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. Appointment will be made initially on a contract with 12 months, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Salary is 27,000 HKD/month or higher which will be commensurate with qualifications and experiences. PhD candidates should possess a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science or related disciplines. The deadline is May 25. Good background with research experience in Fluid Mechanics or Climate Modeling is highly preferred. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are required, and IELTS overall score > 6.5. The scholarship is ~17800 HKD per month.
