Safety analysis of the shipping main routes in Pelagos area in function of weather conditions

The Department of Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Naval Architecture (DITEN) of the University of Genova has opened a position for an Assistant Researcher in the field of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. In the framework of the European research project Interreg Italia- Francia Marittimo SICOMAR+, the researcher will be involved in the study of ship motions due to waves in order to develop an instrument to evaluate the ship responses to different weather conditions. On the basis of  what  has already been developed in the SICOMARplus project the candidate should analyse the safety of the shipping main routes in Pelagos area in function of weather conditions and ship type by using  in house developed numerical tools.

Position duration: 1 year
Starting date: June 1st 2020
Place of work: DITEN Dept, Naval Architecture Division, Via Montallegro 1, Genova, Italy Annual Net Salary: 20.597,18 € (social security included). Medical care is assured by the national health care system.


Requirements:
- Experience in computer programming (numerical modelling, Matlab, Python, Fortran, C/C++, PDStrip, netcdf and grib files handling), - Successful candidates will preferentially hold MS Degree in Naval Architecture, Yacht Design, Civil Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a in closely related field.
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written English,
- Ability to be a team player.
