The Model-Driven Machine Learning group@HZG is hiring PhD students. Our research combines machine learning with physical modeling to understand and predict the complex dynamics of Earth’s atmosphere, ocean, land and ice.

We are based at the Institute of Coastal Research of Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht near Hamburg, Germany and part of the initiative. Hamburg is a vibrant international hub for music, art and culture that is consistently ranked among the world’s most livable cities.

These positions are designed for curious and driven students to focus on challenging and impactful research, supported by extensive on-site interdisciplinary expertise and top-notch computational resources, with minimal administrative or teaching duties. Applicants should have a master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics or the geosciences.
