Senior Data Scientist at StormGeo, Bergen, Norway

Job Description

Based in the beautiful city of Bergen, we are a mix of young and experienced professionals on a mission to make the shipping industry more energy efficient, keep crew safe in offshore operations, and forecast insurance claims caused by tropical hurricanes. Over the last years StormGeo has built a strong data science team, and we need more people to handle incoming projects.

Weather is the most frequent cause of business disruption, and now we need more clever minds to join us solving customer problems and lifting our strong machine learning, AI, and deep learning capabilities to new heights.

Your analytical skills are most important. We expect you to be skilled in mathematics, data analysis and have a proven track record with machine learning techniques, writing code you are proud of, and making coffee when the pot is almost empty. Your current experience and knowledge of languages and platforms are less important than your drive, desire, and ability to analyze problems and produce production-ready code.

What will you be doing?

  • Be a strong contributor in our machine learning group.
  • Solve customer problems by creating operational systems for smarter decisions.
  • Apply your expertise in predictive analytics, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how to create value out of our data lake.
  • Come up with ideas we would not have thought about.

Skills & Requirements

  • PhD/Msc in computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics or related field
  • You have a scientific mind with a proven professional track record within machine learning and statistical modeling
  • You are familiar with Python, Jupyter, Scikit, Numpy, Keras and TensorFlow
  • Know the difference between FNN and DNN, TP and FN, loss and activation
  • You feel comfortable with netCDF and Grib
  • Some expertise with dask and AWS is a plus
  • Experience using Github for code production
  • Be a good team player
  • The ability to convert business into solutions
  • Be curious, independent, and full of initiative

How to apply

If you find this position motivating and challenging, please upload your application and resume as soon as possible and no later than February 21st.
