Title: Researcher position (the modelling of emissions and atmospheric dispersion)
Organization: Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI)
Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) is both an international research institute and a 24/7 operational weather service located in Helsinki, Finland. It currently employs over 300 full time researchers working on weather and climate, atmospheric composition, high latitude and polar oceans, and cryosphere.
Atmospheric Composition Research seeks an enthusiastic, motivated and highly qualified pre- or post-doctoral researcher to work on modelling of the emissions, dispersion and transformation of air pollution, and on providing environmental data for the health and climate assessments. The successful applicant will be developing and using various atmospheric dispersion models and processing their output data.
The successful applicant will contribute, especially, to improving our understanding of the role of shipping on air pollution, climate change and on the health of the populations, both locally and globally. He or she will be working closely with other members of the Atmospheric Composition Research unit, especially in the Atmospheric Dispersion Modelling team. The group is studying, for example, the emissions, dispersion and transformation of air pollutants on scales from street canyons and city scales to global, the evaluation of such models against experimental data, the applications of such models, and the relations of air pollution and climate change.
Qualifications for applicants
Candidates must have at least MSc degree (or equivalent) in relevant fields (atmospheric physics, geosciences or computational sciences). Furthermore, successful candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
