Position : Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Term : 1 year and possible for extension

Subject : To work on LiDAR or Atmospheric Research - experience with technical 
and instrumentation



Brief Requirements :

Atmospheric research group at the university of KwaZulu Natal

remote sensing for studying atmospheric structure and dynamics.

The ground based instruments includes the 2-D lidar for lower troposphere and 
fixed lidar system for aerosol and middle atmosphere temperature (under 
development), Sun-Photometer (operational from 2013), SANAE HF Radar (part of 
the SuperDARN network) and other ancillary data sources (through SAWS, Air 
Quality information system).  The current post doc position is related to 
fulfill the above discipline and conduct independent research. The post-doc is 
more specifically need working experience on the LIDAR (Technical and 
instrumentation part) and application of other ground based and satellite 
instruments.

The applicants has to be highly self-motivated, creative and excellent written 
communication skills.  The selected candidate may expected to assist on NASSP 
teaching and co-supervision of Master/Honour's (4th year) degree students.  The 
initial appointment is for an year and may renewed for additional years based 
on the research performance and availability of funds.



Note that it is specifically for those who have experience on the above 
specified instruments and work on effects of neutral atmosphere.  The 
candidates who have experience on use of space-borne datasets and mathematical 
tools are preferred.  It is expected that the candidate operate lidar on 
continuous basis and it is usually after sun-set and until to early morning 
hours.  Preference may given to national candidates (including females)



Educational Qualification : Ph. D (awarded on the above subject/Atmospheric 
Science/Physics).   You may need to produce the degree completion certificate 
or actual degree when you are applying for it.



The salary follows South Africa university post-doc, currently it is around 
180,000.00 to 225,000.00 with respect to task carry out.
