Data Engineer at StormGeo, Bergen (Norway)

 

Job Description

Data volumes are rapidly increasing, smart and good decisions have to be made.

StormGeo’s DataOps team is constantly looking into making weather data accessible and easily available, making the StormGeo’s products evolve faster and StormGeo’s research scientists focus on data analytics, AI and Machine Learning projects.

We are looking for an experienced data engineer to work on our core business to help shape the future of what we build in StormGeo.

You will enjoy working with big and complex data sets, innovative technology, and be part of StormGeo’s DataOps team.

The perfect candidate will have a background in computer science or atmospheric science, and the ability to be a great driver for the StormGeo's data platform.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage StormGeo’s data sources in an operational environment.
  • Provide day-to-day support for the DataOps team.
  • Assist with strategic planning for the further development of the StormGeo’s data platform and tools.
  • Work closely with Data Science team and AI/Machine Learning projects.
  • Provide scientific/technical advice to other team members on some work aspects to improve the effectiveness of the team.

 

Required skills

  • MSc/PhD in computer science, atmospheric science or a related field.
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and script languages.
  • Advanced skills in Python, C/C++, SQL and database administration.
  • Knowledge and handling of different file formats such as GRIB, BUFR, NetCDF, GeoTIFF, HDF5 and/or shape.
  • Self-motivated and innovative, with strong problem solving instincts and close attention to details.
  • Ability to work within a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Good written and verbal presentation skills.

Desired skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of version control systems.
  • Experience working with cloud providers.
  • Knowledge of Meteorological Workstations.
