As part of the TRIATLAS European project on « South and Tropical Atlantic climate-based marine ecosystem prediction for sustainable management » (http://triatlas.w.uib.no/), we seek a postdoctoral candidate to conduct a research work at LEGOS (Toulouse, France; ) on the interannual variability of the biogeochemical conditions in the Tropical Atlantic.
Understanding this variability is essential to address marine ecosystem variability and management. There is still a knowledge gap on the dominant drivers of the upper ocean biogeochemical content. The main focus will be given to the impact of dominant regional climatic modes on the primary productivity. As a second step, the contribution of external forcings (river, dust) and equatorial-off equatorial exchanges in shaping the Tropical Atlantic biogeochemical content and its variability will be investigated.
The successful candidate will rely on Tropical Atlantic physical-biogeochemical configuration (based on NEMO-PISCES models) at 1/4o horizontal resolution which have already been developed at LEGOS (Radenac et al. 2019; https://doi.org/10.5194/bg-2019-338). Model sensitivity experiments will be designed by the postdoc to disentangle processes.
Applicants should have a PhD in physical oceanography. A background in numerical modeling, good programming skills in Matlab/Python and Fortran are required. An interest in multidisciplinary approach is necessary, and knowledge in biogeochemistry would be appreciated.
Interested candidates should send their CV, a letter explaining their motivations for the position, the name and contact email of 2 references to Julien Jouanno (), Serena Illig () and Gael Alory ().
The postdoc, funded by IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le Développement), is expected to start between March and May 2020. Monthly gross salary will be in the 2500-3100 € range depending on the applicant's experience. Review of applications will be made until the position is filled. The contract will cover a period of 21 months.
