[Met-jobs] Ph.D. position in large-scale atmospheric dynamics
The Institute for Meteorology (LIM), Universität Leipzig, Germany, invites applications for an
open PhD Position (65% TV-L E13) “Large-scale dynamical mechanisms of Arctic
The position is related to the Transregional Collaborative Research Center TR172 on ArctiC
Amplification: Climate Relevant Atmospheric and SurfaCe Processes, and Feedback
Mechanisms (AC)³ (www.ac3-tr.de), which is funded by the German Research Foundation
(DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). Within the TR172, LIM together with the
collaboration partners (Universities of Cologne and Bremen, TROPOS and Alfred Wegener
Institute) aim to better observe, understand and model processes leading to the observed
drastic climate changes in the Arctic. The work will include the numerical modeling of heat
transport into the Arctic in response to changes of mid-latitude forcing, circulation pattern
analysis, and analysis of the large-scale circulation changes using reanalysis and general
circulation model output.

We expect strong interest in atmospheric dynamics. Applicants should have a
Master-of-Science-equivalent university degree in meteorology, geophysics, physics, or
mathematics. Experience in either numerical modeling or high-level scientific programming
for data analysis is highly desirable.
The position is awarded for 3 years. Start of the positions is intended as soon as possible.
