A master’s level graduate research assistantship at Appalachian State University is available beginning August 2020 to investigate precipitation-glacier-climate interactions in the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya region. The successful candidate will join a new collaborative research project in partnership with Loughborough University (UK), Tribhuvan University (Nepal), and Karakoram International University (Pakistan). Applicants should have a strong background in climate science, experience with a programming language (e.g. Python, R or Matlab), an excellent overall academic record, strong written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to perform fieldwork in remote areas. Excellent physical conditioning, travel experience in less-developed countries, and alpine mountaineering experience are also desirable. The student will be expected to work independently, complete a master’s thesis, and present results at international scientific meetings. Review of applications will begin on 15 February 2020 and continue until the position is filled. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Baker Perry (perrylb@appstate.edu) before applying to the graduate program.
