Graduate Assistantship to Investigate Precipitation-Glacier-Climate Interactions
in Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya Region
A master’s level graduate research assistantship at Appalachian State University is available beginning August 2020 to investigate precipitation-glacier-climate interactions in the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya region. The successful candidate will join a new collaborative research project in partnership with Loughborough University (UK), Tribhuvan University (Nepal), and Karakoram International University (Pakistan). Applicants should have a strong background in climate science, experience with a programming language (e.g. Python, R or Matlab), an excellent overall academic record, strong written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to perform fieldwork in remote areas. Excellent physical conditioning, travel experience in less-developed countries, and alpine mountaineering experience are also desirable. The student will be expected to work independently, complete a master’s thesis, and present results at international scientific meetings.
