There are a number of fully-funded PhD studentships available via the EPSRC DTP in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Exeter, UK, some of which relate to weather and climate science, particularly in the areas of Geophysical Fluid Dynamics and Statistical Science:

Possible PhD topics under my supervision are:

"Stochastic subgrid modelling in geophysical fluid systems"

"Characterising predictability in geophysical fluids with Lyapunov exponents and vectors"

"Statistical post-processing of ensemble forecasts of compound weather risk" (jointly with the Met Office)

"Quantifying weather and climate risk using large-deviation theory"

Duration: Three and a half years
