Local Unit & Position Description

DNV GL - Energy's Renewable Analytics team is seeking a Forecast Analyst to join their West Coast operations. The principle purpose of the role is setting up and maintaining forecasting services, assessing their accuracy, refining forecast performance, and investigating new modelling methods.

 

This position can be located in any DNV GL Energy office on the West Coast, although the preferred location is San Diego, CA. Remote work (home office) will be considered.

 

Tasks May Include

  • Delivering highly accurate and reliable forecasting services for energy traders, grid regulators and plant operators
  • Producing forecast performance reports
  • Interfacing with clients to ensure services meet their requirements
  • Researching new modelling methods
  • Assist with workshops and meetings to discuss wind/solar energy forecasting, and promote DNV GL's forecasting services
  • Assisting with the commercial and marketing aspects of the business
  • Willingness to be part on on-call rota to support operational issues

Position Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Meteorology, Physics, Computer Science, or Engineering required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy forecasting required
    • Experience with wind energy preferred
    • Understanding of global weather patterns preferred
    • Experience running numerical weather prediction models preferred
  • Experience using Python required
    • Experience using C#, MATLAB, and/or SQL preferred
  • Willingness to be part on on-call rota to support operational issues during weekend and public holidays, up to two weekends per month, required
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 20% of the time
  • Experience with statistical modelling methods
  • Effective time management skills as you will be required to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work in a pressurised consultancy environment operating to deadline
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
