Title : Postdoc on projections of the climatic trends of South America river flows.
Location: LSCE (Laboratory of Sciences of Climate and Environment), Saclay, France
Duration of the contract : 12 months
Context : In the coming decades, climate change will modify the precipitation and the evaporation over the continents. This will profoundly change the hydrological cycle and the amount of water that goes in our rivers and streams. In many regions we rely on surface water for energy and food resources. It is highly important to predict the evolution of the river flow in the coming decades to anticipate whether existing infrastructures to manage surface water will still remain suitable for the services they were built for
In this project we propose to use the CORDEX climate simulations to predict the continental hydrological cycle with the land surface model ORCHIDEE and extract the simulated changes from it. We will focus on the natural river flow at this
stage of the study since geophysical models are not able to predict the evolution of the water usage, that will be modified after the consequences of climate change.
Description of the missions: Preparing the CORDEX outputs as forcing of the hydrological cycle of South America for ORCHIDEE. The simulations of present day and future climate with ORCHIDEE will be produced in the project. The most important part of the mission will be the analysis of these simulations to evaluate the uncertainties and extract the robust signals. These results will be presented to potential users of hydrological infrastructures in the area.

- Master degree (minimum)
- a PhD in climate sciences, hydrology or physics is a bonus
Knowledge in hydrology and/or climatology are required as well as good skills in programming languages used for the analysis of geophysical data. Experience in the use and analysis of geophysical models will be particularly valuable for the candidate.
