I am hiring a Field Application Scientist for Picarro to be based in California out of our Santa Clara office to join our growing team. The job will entail approximately 50% domestic travel, but must be based in our California office. The ideal candidate will have hands on experience with instrumentation such as GC, mass spec, or laser based spectroscopy, and be eager to work with customers on solving their tough measurement challenges in science.

Field Applications Scientist

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Americas Sales, Science, this role will play a pivotal role in support field sales of scientific instruments. This is a high-impact role that is critical to our goals. The Field Applications Scientist will be responsible for the functions that drive top line growth including, but not limited to, traveling to customer sites to engage in technical discovery, business development, and helping to prospect for new business.  The Field Applications Scientist will help keep account managers informed of new markets and product offerings, and also attend conferences and trade shows as needed.  The Field Applications Scientist will develop meaningful relationships with our customers to collaborate on new product breakthroughs.

Key Responsibilities: 

·         Assist the Americas field organization to meet or exceed sales goals through hands-on technical expertise of Picarro’s CRDS instruments

·         Prospect and perform technical discovery to help find new business in cooperation with account managers

·         Understand customer’s applications and recommend solutions to meet their needs

·         Conduct product demonstrations and run samples

·         Identify and articulate unique Picarro product strengths

·         Perform product installations and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction

·         Act as the customer voice inside Picarro to influence future product direction

·         Assess potential new applications and develop methods to be used with Picarro systems

·         Participate in conferences, trade shows and other forums

·         Document work in CRM and work collaboratively with the team


·         Bachelor’s degree in earth or geosciences, Master’s or Ph.D. preferred

·         Hands on experience with laser optical instruments, isotope ratio mass spectrometry or other trace gas analyzers

·         Excellent presentation and communication skills

·         Reporting to Director of Sales, North America

·         Up to 50% domestic travel

·         This position is based in Santa Clara CA
