Job Profile Summary

This new and exciting leadership position reflects the growing importance of effectively managing the dual challenge of the energy transition, particularly associated with energy generating technologies beyond oil and gas and associated with decarbonising oil and gas.

This role is responsible for leading the development and establishing an understanding of environmental impacts associated with energy generation technologies and sustainability priorities to inform and shape BP’s energy transition. The role will evaluate emerging environmental and sustainability issues and establish research to improve understanding of specific environmental impacts where the issues are not well known. Working with a wide range of internal stakeholders (both leadership and technical experts) this role will inform selection of potential energy sources, associated venture investments and management strategies associated with the energy transition and inform future business strategy.

Externally the role holder will work with key stakeholders including academia, industry, technology companies and selected NGOs to help shape support to BPs energy transition and environmental and sustainability understanding.  The role will establish horizon scanning for emerging issues, key analysis, tools and metrics to support critical environmental issues including life cycle analysis, severe weather and climate modelling and will sustain a process to communicate key findings as they emerge. The role will lead the development of capability to deepen critical expertise where necessary.

Best Regards,

Kieran Bhatia
