In your new role as a Meteorologist in Flight Dispatch, you will apply your specialist meteorological expertise to provide advice and guidance to Flight Operations, the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), Flight Crew and other stakeholders. You will actively enhance the network operations of QANTAS Airways Ltd through the provision of real-time monitoring of meteorological observations, forecasts and warnings associated with relevant domestic and international aerodromes; and enroute conditions, as appropriate.


You will provide advice on all meteorological conditions of interest, including assessment of any attendant risks. This advice may include face-to-face briefing of pilots and airline staff and will include reference to thunderstorms and severe weather events and any other weather/environment phenomena which may have a significant impact on airline flight operations.


You’ll have –


  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in meteorology science is required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an aviation forecaster or aviation meteorology office
  • Appropriate levels of knowledge and/or experience in a meteorology forecasting office including flight planning and /or pilot briefing
  • Knowledge of airspace and air routes, flight planning systems as well as on-board Navigation computer capabilities, and airport design criteria preferred
  • Understanding of Airline Operations environment
  • Knowledge of Aeronautical Information Services, Air Traffic Management, State Regulatory bodies (CASA), IATA organisation, resources & processes, & ICAO Annexes & support Manuals preferred
  • High level of IT acumen including standard MS Office applications standard desktop office automation software applications and company specific systems
  • Ability to work with specialised meteorology computer technology
  • Ability to undertake specialist aeronautical training as required
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work in a specialised team environment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to adhere to very strict deadlines
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to identify problems, develop and implement mitigation strategies
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve undertaking a collaborative approach through negotiation and communication at all levels of the Company
  • Ability to effectively collate and present data to senior management
