The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position, Climate Risk and Adaptation Scientist, at the rank of Associate or full Professor. The successful candidate will also be the Director of the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) and will be expected to develop a research program that complements existing strengths of NDMC and related faculty in SNR. This 9-month position shall have appointments in research and extension, and will be expected to lead and coordinate a nationally recognized research and extension program in drought mitigation.


Required qualifications: PhD in a relevant field of study (e.g., climatology, meteorology, geography) or closely related field; ten or more years of relevant experience, including the PhD; a strong record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals; and a strong record of generating grant funding in support of research. Effective written and oral communication skills with students, professionals, and the general public is also required.


Preferred qualifications: Relevant experience beyond the PhD in drought mitigation; active in international activities and networks; ability to work with diverse organizations; and experience working in team environments.
