Dear colleagues,

Two exiting opportunities are available in the context of atmospheric dynamics and predictability at Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany:

1) a fully funded PhD position
as part of "Waves to Weather" (W2W; http://www.wavestoweather.de), a collaborative research center that aims to deliver the underpinning science urgently needed to pave the way to the next generation of weather forecasting systems. This project will investigate the processes governing forecast uncertainty in midlatitude weather systems and their upscale impact. For more information, take a look at our detailed job ad and feel free to contact me:
https://www.wavestoweather.de/positions/phd-position-a1a/index.html
The application deadline will be extended until the position is filled.

2) a PostDoc position on dynamics and predictability beyond the synoptic scale.
This project will take a process-based perspective on how remote low-frequency features (e.g., stratosphere, MJO, etc.) impact midlatitude dynamics and predictability. The position will be associated with W2W and the successful applicant will benefit from early career development and networking opportunities provided by W2W. Initial funding is available until May 2021. For more information, see attachment and feel free to contact me.

For the PhD position, apply online at the job application portal of W2W:
https://www.portal.graduatecenter.uni-muenchen.de/ocgc/w2w

To apply for the PostDoc position, send your CV, a letter of interest, and contact details of three academic referees to mriemer@uni-mainz.de.

Best, Michael
