A PhD position, reserved for NON-ITALIAN student only, is available at the University of Salento, Lecce, Italy.

The candidate is expected to explore the link between climate change in the Mediterranean region and global atmospheric dynamics. The candidate will investigate in CMIP6 climate projections the influence of the poleward shift of the Hadley circulation edges, northward migration of the mid-latitude storm track  and the attenuation of the polar vortex on Mediterranean climate, focusing on future Mediterranean droughts. Her/His research aims to identify mechanisms, common among models, leading to strong/weak regional impacts and to assess the relative role of large scale and regional processes.

During the PhD, the candidate has the chance to spend one year abroad, visiting another European institution, outside Italy.
