Short description:

The research project, financed by the strategic research area MERGE, is to focus on advancing our knowledge on oxidation of VOCs and secondary organic aerosol formation. Specifically, the research project on which the student will primarily work is to develop the EMEP MSC-W chemical transport model utilizing findings from experimental work facilitated by the use of box models with more detailed reaction schemes such as e.g. the Master Chemical Mechanism. One will work with data from both experiments and field observations to enhance understanding on VOC oxidation and SOA formation that could be implemented into chemical transport models or as a first step tested using chemical schemes suitable for box-models. The available data is from previous or concurrent measurements using chemical ionization mass spectrometer (CIMS) for laboratory experiments (flow or chamber studies) and field observations including boreal forest, mixed forest and urban atmospheres.
