Dear colleagues,We are looking for 2 PhD students to join our team at the Geophysical Institute and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, in Bergen, Norway.
One PhD candidate will assess Arctic climate variability and change for current and future climate states, with a particular focus on the Barents Sea. The general scope of the PhD project will be to compare and contrast regional climate change and its drivers, e.g., how future sea ice retreat will be manifested in the Atlantic and Pacific sectors of the Arctic. The PhD will furthermore explore Arctic climate predictability on interannual to decadal time scales.

The other PhD candidate will investigate the mechanisms of ongoing and future ocean circulation changes in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic. A main aim will be to assess how structural change partitions between wind-driven and overturning circulation on different time scales, and to what extent changes are internally and externally forced. The PhD will also investigate how circulation changes in the North Atlantic are communicated with the Arctic.

The PhDs will be connected to the project Nansen Legacy (https://arvenetternansen.com/) funded by the Research Council of Norway.
Thank you very much for sharing this information with potential candidates. All the best, Marius Årthun
