Met Office - Weather Scientist

Do you want to work in a globally renowned centre of excellence, helping to
safeguard the lives of millions of people?

The Met Office provides an opportunity for talented scientists to apply their
skills to real-world problems, with impacts upon services that reach all our
lives. Our award-winning Met Office Headquarters in Exeter is home to
world-class scientific research teams and computer technology, working to
improve our understanding of, and ability to predict, atmosphere, land and
ocean aspects of the earth-system. The Met Office, produces and delivers
weather forecasts from a range of deterministic and ensemble numerical weather
prediction models, which are used to generate a wide array of products to
deliver to customers worldwide.

Within the organisation, Weather Science
(https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/weather) provides the scientific and
operational capabilities that deliver our short to medium-range weather
forecasts. The Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) system is the core activity
to improve the quality of weather forecasts. Accurate weather forecasts require
the assimilation of space- and surface-based observations, the assessment and
scientific understanding of NWP models to better represent the physical
processes in the atmosphere. In addition to the weather, we also focus on
oceans and air quality, and we have systems in place for operational emergency
response.
Job Purpose

We have several exciting opportunities within Weather Science and are looking
for talented and creative candidates eager to contribute to the research and
development required to improve weather forecasts.

Applications within the current call may also be considered for additional
vacancies in Science that may occur within the next 6 months.
