Employment Opportunities

Columbia University, Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cloud and Aerosol Microphysical Modeling

The Center for Climate Systems Research in the Earth Institute of Columbia University is accepting applications for a post-doctoral researcher in aerosol and cloud microphysical parameterizations.

This position is part of the Aerosol Cloud Meteorology Interactions Over the Western Atlantic Experiment (ACTIVATE) NASA Earth Venture program, which aims towards a better understanding of aerosol — cloud interactions, through the use of measurements obtained from an aircraft campaign. A related focus is on advancing the parameterizations of physical processes essential to improving aerosol — cloud interactions, including aerosol microphysical processes, droplet activation, and cloud microphysical processes. Specifically, the project will examine and develop new analysis techniques to bridge the scale mismatch between aircraft measurements and large-scale climate models through large-eddy simulations (LES) and a single column model (SCM) representation of the climate model column physics.

Specific job duties and responsibilities will include:

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in atmospheric sciences, physics, chemistry, meteorology, engineering, or related/relevant field.

Qualified candidates should possess: experience in numerical modeling, cloud and/or aerosol physics and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cloud and aerosol microphysical parameterizations.

Excellent command (verbal and written) of the English language, organization and meticulousness, and strong interpersonal skills desired.
