PhD position in “Impact of plant emissions on air quality”


Within the Institute for Energy and Climate Research: Troposphere (IEK-8) in the Forschungszenturm Jülich we are seeking for a PhD candidate to work on the impact that trace gases emitted from plants have on formation of secondary pollutants such as ozone and particles and thereofre on the quality of the air.

The successful candidate will focus on experiments on the atmospheric simulation chamber SAPHIR, a one in a kind infrastructure for detailed studies of atmopsheric processes, investigating the chemical degradation processes of trace gases emitted from plants.

This will include planning of experiments in the SAPHIR chamber, measurements of trace gases with state-of-art instrumentations, data analysis and chemical box model implementation.

The successful candidate will have the chance to actively participate to campaigns at the SAPHIR chamber,  show results at international conferences and publish on scientific journals, further develop personal strenght via comprehensive training programs and work in an outstanding scientifc and technical infrastructure.


Applicants must hold a M. Sc. degree in physics, chemistry, environmental sciences or a related field, have a strong interest in atmospheric chemistry and in working hands-on with complex built-in instruments.
