[Met-jobs] Research engineer on deep tropical convection with high-resolution simulations at Univ. Toulouse

As a continuation of scientific studies on deep convection from the Megha-Tropiques mission, CNES and NASA initiated scientific and technical cooperation around the Aerosols Cloud Convection Precipitation (ACCP) program. In this context, the research engineer's mission will be to feed into the current reflections on the concept of the ACCP mission's radiometer train. The specifications of the radiometer that CNES could bring are under discussion in the framework of R&T actions between CNES and the industrialists. A first sketch of such a mission was submitted to the CNES call for ideas under the name of C2OMODO (Roca et al., 2018).

The objective of the work of the research engineer is to explore the information content of a train of passive microwave radiometers to characterize individual updrafts in tropical convective systems.

The chosen approach consists in using the explicit modeling of the high-resolution atmospheric convection coupled with a radiative transfer code in order to simulate, on the one hand, a multi-spectral high frequency imaging in the microwaves, of the SAPHIR radiometer type, and on the other hand, the imaging difference at different time intervals to explore the contribution of the flight in close formation of two radiometers.
