Context And
Mission
The
Earth Sciences Department of Barcelona Supercomputing Center
(BSC-ES), led by Prof Francisco Doblas-Reyes, the climate
prediction group, aims at, among other objectives, developing a
capability to develop and provide climate information for a
variety of time scales ranging from a few weeks to a few decades
and from regional to global scales. The department is also part of
the development team and a key user of the EC-Earth global climate
model (http://www.ec-earth.org) and as such collaborates closely
with all the members of the EC-Earth consortium.
The position offered aims at studying a suite of global and regional climate simulations, including high-resolution climate simulations performed as part of the European H2020 project PRIMAVERA, comparing them with the best observations available, estimating metrics that assess the model fitness for purpose and developing regional climate information that makes the best use of both global and regional climate models. The successful applicant will develop regional climate information and collaborate with scientists in the department who develop climate services and engage with climate-vulnerable sectors to illustrate the added value of this climate information.
