3 positions available on the new H2020 funded Constraining uncertainty of multi-decadal climate projections (CONSTRAIN) project

As coordinator of the EU funded CONSTRAIN programme, the University of Leeds has 3 exciting new positions available starting 1st July for 4 years. The application closing date for all positions is 9th June.

Two Research Fellow in Constraining uncertainty of multi-decadal climate projections, Grade 7 (£33,199 – £39,609 p.a.)

1.       PDRA in radiative forcing and climate emulators - Investigating the mechanisms affecting radiative forcing (by aerosols, greenhouse gases, volcanoes) and further develop the Finite amplitude Impulse Response (FaIR) physically based emulator of complex climate models.

2.       PDRA in atmospheric circulation - Investigating aspects of the large-scale atmospheric circulation response to external forcing (e.g. due to aerosols, greenhouse gases) with an emphasis on the mid-latitudes.

Policy and Science Manager, Grade 8 (£40,792-£48,677)

You will work closely with the lead academic, Prof Piers Forster on the strategic leadership of the programme, using your passion and experience to focus the project on the big picture policy needs. You will be responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the successful delivery of the research programme, ensuring effective integration across the scientific work packages concentrating on policy impact. Further details here.

For informal enquiries please contact Prof Piers Forster (p.m.forster@leeds.ac.uk) and/or Dr Amanda Maycock (a.c.maycock@leeds.ac.uk).

About CONSTRAIN

Working with Prof Piers Forster, Dr Amanda Maycock and colleagues, you will contribute to the success of this exciting new project. CONSTRAIN brings together world-leading climate scientists to improve future climate projections and inform climate policy decisions on the European and international stage. This four year, 8€ million programme of research and stakeholder engagement will be led by the University of Leeds and involves 13 partners across 9 countries from across the EU and Israel.

The CONSTRAIN project will leverage cutting edge science to deliver improved climate projections for future policy impact by improving understanding of complex models, where and when we can trust them, and how we can best communicate this information for decision making (see attached pdf for more details on CONSTRAIN)
