Postdoctoral Research Scientist position, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Atmospheric Sciences.

The successful candidate will work on a project that aims to understand the transport processes from lower latitudes to the Arctic region and the underlying dynamical mechanisms. The work will involve the use of a combination of observations, comprehensive and idealized climate model experiments, to examine the performance of the state-of-the-art global climate models in the representation of long-range transport processes into the Arctic and the associated timescales with links to a broad range of chemical species such as black carbon and others. With the use of both comprehensive and idealized models, the work will also investigate the linkage between dynamics and transport and help pinpoint potential model deficiencies in simulating the transport processes.

The research will be jointly supervised by Dr. Yutian Wu, Lamont/Columbia, Dr. Mingfang Ting, Lamont/Columbia, and Dr. Clara Orbe, NASA GISS. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply and can direct inquiries to yutianwu@ldeo.columbia.edu.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: Candidates should have a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences or related fields.

Preferred Qualification: Research experience in atmospheric dynamics and/or atmospheric chemistry and familiarity with running climate models.

Appointment will be for 1-year, with continuation pending funding and progress.

Search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will continue until the position is filled.
