The Research Group Snow Hydrology investigates the dynamics of snow water resources and snowmelt in alpine watersheds. To complement our team we offer a two-year position starting on July 2019
You will work at the interface of atmospheric and snow modelling. You will develop a framework to deploy the atmospheric research model ICAR to dynamically downscale atmospheric fields from larger-scale atmospheric models. This includes both, forecast data from numerical weather prediction models and climate change projections from regional climate models. You will further use the downscaled fields as input to our physically based snow models to study atmosphere - snow cover feedbacks. Your work will provide valuable inputs to two WSL research programs: “operational snowmelt forecast systems – OSHD” and “climate change impacts on alpine mass movements – CCAMM”.
You hold a university degree in environmental physics or in a similar field, as well as a PhD on a relevant subject. Expertise in the use of spatially-distributed atmospheric and/or snow models is essential, having contributed to respective model development is desirable. You appreciate working as part of a motivated team that operates at the interface between science and practice.
