We have an opportunity for a Senior Research Associate to work on the H2020 project SECLI-FIRM (The Added Value of Seasonal Climate Forecasts for Integrated Risk Management Decisions - http://www.secli-firm.eu/) based at the University of East Anglia (UEA).
UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Associate to undertake research in collaboration with Professor Alberto Troccoli, in order to assess the skill of the seasonal climate forecasting multi-model approach so as to estimate and improve the current prediction performance for the key climate variables.
We are seeking a highly motivated early career researcher to join our international and interdisciplinary research network. The specific role of the post holder will be to assess the skill of the seasonal climate forecasting multi-model approaches so as to estimate and improve the current prediction performance for the key climate variables considered in the industrial case studies to be investigated within the SECLI-FIRM project.
A comprehensive set of user-driven techniques aimed at maximising the prediction performance, the reliability, and the usefulness of the seasonal climate predictions will be researched and developed, based on the recommendations and the needs by the SECLI-FIRM industry partners and co-designers. The ultimate aim of this task is to feed the most skilful seasonal forecasts to the SECLI-FIRM case studies, so as to allow the quantification of the value add to the decision-making processes considered.
The research will be based at the University of East Anglia in the School of Environmental Sciences with the opportunity to spend part of their appointment at the Dutch Met Service, KNMI or other project partner institutions.
Candidates must have a PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in climate or atmospheric sciences, applied statistics, hydrometeorology, environmental science, or an engineering field, with significant experience in climate forecasting and/or Earth system processes and/or statistical analysis. Significant previous experience of independent research is also required, as is the need to fulfil all essential elements of the person specification.
The full-time post is for a fixed term of 24 months ending 30 June 2021 and commences 1 July 2019.
