[Met-jobs] Two PhD studentships in aerosol remote sensing at Leipzig University

The Leipzig Institute for Meteorology at Leipzig University, Germany, offers two fully funded three-year PhD studentships starting on 1 June 2019.

The positions will be within the project PACIFIC funded by the German Academic Exchange Service’s Make Our Planet Great Again - German Research Initiative (https://www.daad.de/hochschulen/programme-weltweit/forschung/de/64117-franco-german-fellowship-programme-on-climate-energy-and-earth-system-research-make-our-planet-great-again-german-research-initiative-mopga-gri/).

You will develop methodologies for the retrieval of concentrations of cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and ice nucleating particles (INP) from spaceborne lidar measurements. This novel information will be used to investigate the effects of changes in aerosol concentration on the properties of clouds.

Applicants should have a completed Master’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric sciences, physics or related fields at the start date of the announced positions. The work will include scientific programming, e.g. using MatLab, Python, or IDL, the presentation of research findings at international conferences and workshops, and the publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Proficiency in English (oral and written) is mandatory. The salary level will be according to the German public service regulation (TV-L 13, 75%).
