Dear All,

Please find the PhD position below.

PhD Position in Ensemble-based Spectral Wave Data Assimilation

A PhD position is open as part of a joint project between research groups at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN), Ecuador, and Institute of Marine Sciences (ISMAR), Italy. The selected candidate will work on developing an ensemble-based spectral wave data assimilation system exploiting recently developed spectral partitioning of the wave systems. The position is based at KAUST and extended visits will be organized to the collaborating institutions EPN and ISMAR. The work will be co-supervised by Prof. Ibrahim Hoteit at KAUST, Prof. Jesus Portilla at EPN and Dr. Luigi Cavaleri at ISMAR.

We are looking for a highly motivated student with strong interests in data assimilation and wave modeling. Candidates should possess a solid undergraduate and Masters level academic training in applied mathematics, physical oceanography, or closely related fields. Prior research experience in wave modeling, programming in Fortran and high performance computing will be a big plus.

KAUST offers excellent academic and social atmosphere. PhD scholars enjoy competitive salaries and benefits, along with a truly global exposure through colleagues from over 100 nationalities.
