Towards improved weather forecasting: the retrieval of temperature and cloud properties from IASI using new carbon dioxide spectroscopic line parameters

One fully funded PhD studentship is available with the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), based at the University of Leicester, to commence in October 2019. The studentship is competition-funded through the CENTA DTP and only available for UK and EU students.
The project involves using new spectroscopic line parameters of carbon dioxide to improve the retrieval of temperature and cloud properties from atmospheric measurements taken by the three IASI instruments on the MetOp series of polar-orbiting meteorological satellites. The main purpose of these instruments is to support numerical weather prediction.
The project will involve a placement with the UK Met Office, and collaboration with Dr Stephan Havemann.
