The elusive BVOC: mapping atmospheric isoprene from space

Supervisors: Dr Jeremy Harrison, Dr Michael Barkley, Dr David Moore

Funding: CENTA

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship at the University of Leicester to commence in October 2019.  This novel project aims to measure the concentrations of atmospheric isoprene from satellite for the first time.  Isoprene, which is emitted from vegetation and is a precursor of tropospheric ozone and secondary organic aerosols, accounts for nearly half of the emissions of all biogenic volatile organic compounds.  If successful, the student will be based in the Earth Observation Science (EOS) group within the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and will be affiliated to the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO).  Full details of the project, including how to apply, can be found here:

The deadline for applications is 21 January.

Please contact Dr Jeremy Harrison if you require any further information.
