One funded PhD position is available in the Severe Weather and Climate group in Stanford's Earth System Science department. I am seeking a creative, hard-working student interested in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics questions related to storms in a range of planetary climates. Qualified students will have high marks in math and physics classes, and independent research experience is desirable. More information can be found at storms.stanford.edu.
Students will have the possibility of participating in a hurricane field campaign if they choose to pursue tropical cyclone-related questions, which is the primary focus of my current research. Other possible topics include monsoon dynamics, supercell/tornadogenesis, and severe weather occurrence thresholds in a warming world, and students will have considerable freedom to shape their own projects. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact me in advance of applying (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Applications for Fall 2019 are currently open and due December 4th. Information about the application can be found here: https://gradadmissions.stanford.edu/applying. Please forward to possible qualified candidates.
