PhD position in Atmospheric Sciences The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and its Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research/Atmospheric Environmental Research (KIT/IMK-IFU) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, invites applications for a PHD POSITION IN ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES in the granted CHEESEHEAD research project (DFG, NSF). "Chequamegon Heterogeneous Ecosystem Energy-balance Study Enabled by a High- density Extensive Array of Detectors" (CHEESEHEAD), is a cooperation project with the University of Wisconsin (Madison). CHEESEHEAD seeks to answer: to what extent are land surface energy partitioning and atmospheric responses different than the sum of its individual components, and if so, how does it influence the atmosphere and how do we optimally observe and simulate it? To examine this, in a selected area (100km2) with a very heterogeneous land surface in the North of Wisconsin a dense network of detectors will be installed and complemented remote sensing techniques as lidar. The preparation of our lidar for the CHEESEHEAD experiment and the evaluation of the measurement data will take place at the KIT Campus Alpin (IMK-IFU) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
