Dear all,
I would like to advertise a new position at the University of Miami/Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies on satellite radiance assimilation. This position will support NOAA's Quantitative Observing System Assessment Program (QOSAP).

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the University of Miami invites applicants for an Assistant Scientist position in Atmospheric Sciences. The incumbent will be responsible for the simulation and utilization of current and proposed satellite radiance observations to improve weather forecasts, including quantifying impact. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to work in a team and shown capability in oral and written communications. 

Essential job functions include: 
• Simulate current satellite radiance observations with the state-of-the-art OSSE system. 
• Lead development work on the simulation and assimilation of all-sky satellite radiances to improve global and regional weather forecasts. 
• Generate new proposed satellite observations with realistic coverage and accuracy. 
• Conduct OSSEs, OSEs, EFSOI/FSOI and other methods to evaluate the impact of current and proposed satellite radiances. 
• Interpret and publish results in progress reports and peer reviewed literature. 
• Present the results at meetings and conferences. 
• Write proposals to maintain and expand the global observing system architecture effort. 

• Applicants must have a Ph.D. Degree in Atmospheric Sciences, or related Physical Sciences. 
• At least one year of relevant postdoctoral experience. 
• Skills are required in remote sensing and numerical weather prediction. 
• Knowledge and experience in satellite radiance observations, observing system experiments, data assimilation. 
• Experience with Fortran programming, UNIX/LINUX systems, and statistical analysis and visualization packages.
