* The project *

I am seeking a PhD student to join my research group at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Canberra. The research will fall within the broad topic of investigating the severity of future extreme temperatures in Australia. Subject to successful application to UNSW, the student will be eligible to receive tuition support and scholarships. Applicants successful in the _expression_ of interest process will be guided through the UNSW scholarship application.

* Research environment *

The student will have access to an exceptional range of resources through the University of New South Wales and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX), including travel support, professional development opportunities, research computing support and a rich intellectual environment. UNSW is rated well above world atmospheric sciences and houses the globally renowned Climate Change Research Centre (CCRC), a multi-disciplinary research group comprising one of the largest university facilities of its kind in Australia. UNSW is also the lead institution of CLEX, a world-class collaboration between Australian research institutes focused on extreme climate events, with international partnerships spanning many major climate research centres worldwide.

* Applicants*

The successful candidate is encouraged to shape the project to match their background, interests and expertise. Applicants should have a strong academic track record including an Honours Class I or equivalent. Honours or masters graduates with a strong academic track record in physics and/or mathematics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Further details provided on request. Interested applicants should send an _expression_ of interest (including academic transcript and details of the grading procedures at your university, a short CV, copies of any publications) to Dr Sophie Lewis, s.lewis@adfa.edu.au.
