Postdoc Position in Coupled Climate-Carbon Cycle Modelling

The Climate Research Lab in the Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada), led by Dr. Kirsten Zickfeld, invites applications for a postdoctoral position in coupled-climate carbon cycle modelling.

The successful applicant will join a dynamic group with expertise in Earth system modelling, climate dynamics and climate-carbon cycle interactions on decadal to centennial timescales. The focus of the research will be on the future climate and carbon cycle response to “overshoot” scenarios, i.e. scenarios that temporarily exceed a temperature limit. Understanding the response to such scenarios is of fundamental interest, as most scenarios consistent with meeting the temperature limits set by the Paris Agreement (1.5°C and 2°C warming above pre-industrial) involve temperature overshoot. The research questions will be addressed by performing multi-century simulations with an Earth System Model of intermediate complexity and by drawing on climate model archives such as the Climate Modelling Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) archive.

Funding is available for one year, with possibility of renewal for one additional year. The preferred start date is 1st November 2018.

Evaluation of applications will start on 12 August 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.
