Postdoctoral fellowship on the ocean response to atmospheric variability over the Maritime Continent at the University of Hawaii

A postdoctoral position is available at the International Pacific Research Center (IPRC), University of Hawaii at Manoa. The position is part of a NOAA funded project aimed at determining the controls on upper ocean processes that impact intraseasonal variability in the Maritime Continent region. The project is in collaboration with colleagues at JAMSTEC, Japan and will contribute to the international research campaign the Years of the Maritime Continent (YMC). Particular focus will be paid to the role of freshwater forcing. The use of high resolution numerical models will be combined with the analysis of observations. There will be an opportunity to participate in a related research cruise.
Applicants should have a recent PhD or be close to completion. Experience in designing, running and analyzing numerical experiments is a distinct advantage. Initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a further two years based on satisfactory performance and continued funding. Applicants are asked to submit (1) a cover letter describing their research experience, (2) a CV, and (3) contact information for three references. Applications should be submitted to Dr. Kelvin Richards, rkelvin@hawaii.edu.  Questions about the positions can be directed to the same address. Further information about the IPRC can be found at http://iprc.soest.hawaii.edu.
