In collaboration with the National Centre for Earth Observation and the Met Office, we are seeking two outstanding experts in Data Assimilation to join our world-leading Department of Meteorology in new Professorial positions.
Firstly, we are seeking a new leader for our Data Assimilation Research Centre (DARC) – home to the world’s largest grouping of academic expertise in DA. This role will provide research and strategic leadership of Data Assimilation activity, both within the University of Reading and nationwide as Director of DA for NERC’s National Centre for Earth Observation. This role will be a permanent substantive Chair in the Department of Meteorology, with the NCEO role attached for an initial period of up to five years.
Also, working with the Met Office, we are investing in a second Chair in Data Assimilation with specific focus on applying DA to Numerical Weather Prediction in the Exascale era. This post will work specifically with the Met Office on ensuring their operational next-generation NWP methodologies incorporate the latest DA techniques. This role is for an initial fixed-term of five years.
