We are looking for a candidate for an employment of Agri-Risk modeler at RMS, Noida, India. The details are as follows.

 

 

Agriculture Risk Modeller

 

Model Development/Modeling  Noida, India

 

Summary: RMS is currently recruiting for an Agriculture Risk Modeler to join our growing agriculture risk modelling team responsible for creating models and content for our agriculture risk modelling software platform.

 

Department: RMS has more than 30 years of experience building natural catastrophe models for property and casualty market. The model development team boasts a team of about 100 scientists building mathematical models that predict the distributions of possible damage due to the effects of earthquakes, tropical storms, extra-tropical storms, thunderstorms, storm-surge and floods, using a combination of observed data, reanalysis data, numerical and statistical models and data assimilation. RMS is the pioneer on the development and application of complex statistical and numerical modelling methods for the quantification of natural hazard risk. RMS’ risk models are the most detailed and comprehensive models of natural catastrophes produced anywhere in the world. Our clients include several hundred insurance and reinsurance companies as well as brokers, banks, hedge funds, regional and local governments, and multilateral agencies. RMS has been investing huge amount of resources to expand in the agricultural risk insurance space to build products including multiple peril crop insurance, named peril, revenue cover and parametric insurance for crops, livestock and forestry in the biggest markets worldwide such as China, India and Brazil. The agriculture risk modelling team responsible for building the agriculture risk models is part of the model development business unit. 

Objective of the Role: To develop and improve risk models that quantify the risks to agriculture from perils such as drought, flood, heatwave, cyclones, hail, disease and fire, etc. and their impacts on different regions around the globe. 

Key Accountabilities and Deliverables: • Conduct research to develop and improve the modelling science behind modelling of crop growth from planting to harvest • Develop dynamical crop models that simulate the plant growth and linking with climatic variables to study the impact from natural perils • Application of statistical modelling methods in the crop modelling process • Handling large databases that consists of climate variables, remote sensing observations, geo data etc. • Develop a good working relationship with other team members and RMS product managers, engage in joint working activities • Interact with external clients where needed to present the technical aspects of the development work 

Requirements: • PhD related to crop modelling, agriculture modelling and climate modeling with interest in agri-risk modeling.
• Good understanding and exposure to crop modelling processes and application of statistical modelling • Proficiency in data analysis and data manipulation • Knowledge of statistics would be a distinct plus • Coding experience in languages, e.g. R, Matlab, Python, C++ etc. • Working knowledge of GIS applications • Good communication and teamworking skills • Experience with dynamic crop growth simulation models such as DSSAT is a plus.
